United States for Abortion
The United States for Abortion (US4A) project was created to bring attention to diverse and regional perspectives on abortion rights. The need for safe and legal abortion is nuanced and complex. The project calls on designers from all 50 states plus Washington D.C. and the colonized territory of Puerto Rico to design artwork in support of the right to safe and legal abortion for all. The artwork is sold as t-shirts, prints and stickers. 100% of profits go to the National Network of Abortion Funds.
Emily Oberg’s work was contributed to the project in the Fall of 2023 and released with the campaign in the Spring of 2024, representing work from the state of Texas. In 2021, Texas introduced Senate Bill 8, which bans abortion as early as six weeks in pregnancy, before many people know they are pregnant, and authorizes individuals to file civil lawsuits to enforce the ban. This design responds to the strict abortion bans in Texas through juxtaposing pro-abortion language and Western motifs, emphasizing the right to life, liberty, and happiness. The project gained visibility in Ms. Magazine, where Emily’s work is featured. Click here to view the feature and read more about the project.
