BRA Day 2025

Each year during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, UTMB Health hosts BRA Day, an event to celebrate International Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) Day, a nationally recognized initiative dedicated to empowering individuals affected by breast cancer through education, support, and connection. For BRA Day 2025, I designed the emblem and visual identity for the event, along with the digital and print pieces to support the promotion and environment of the event.

  • This year’s BRA Day 2025 event theme was inspired by Wicked, employing the theme tagline, “Unmasking the Wickedly Beautiful: Celebrate Strength, Beauty and Hope”. For this event, I needed to create a new event emblem that was elegant and timeless; an emblem that could be used in the upcoming years of the event. The visual identity of the event was to support breast cancer survivors and those who had gone through breast reconstruction.

    • Event Promotional Materials: Lunch Event Invitation, Evening Event Flyer, UTMB TV Slide Graphic, Social Media Graphics, Web Banners

    • Event Supporting Materials: A-Frame Signage, Table Signs, Service Line Rack Cards

    • Giveaway Items: Stickers, Bra Decorating Contest Winner Certificates

  • My goals for this project began with incorporating motifs of Breast Cancer Awareness and Wicked into the typography and illustrative elements of the event emblem. As the project moved forward, I strived to create a cohesive design system across collateral, utilizing a main BRA Day emblem, a secondary Wicked themed emblem, and motifs that displayed photos from previous years’ BRA Day.

Research

My research for BRA Day began with creating a mood board that included design work from Wicked themed artwork and art deco inspired pieces. This mood board gave me inspiration for motifs that I could incorporate into the typography and illustrations used in the emblem.

Iteration

When I first began designing for this project, the client requested the emblem to be Wicked themed and feature the phrase, “Unmasking the Wickedly Beautiful: Celebrate Strength and Beauty”. However, we found that the Wicked themed emblem I designed in my earlier iterations would not be sustainable for the future years’ BRA Day events. I shifted directions to a simpler, primary emblem that highlights the double loop pink ribbon and the phrase, “Closing the Loop on Breast Cancer”, and created a secondary emblem with the Wicked themed elements.
