EMS Week 2025

EMS Week is a national observance honoring Emergency Medical Services honoring Emergency Medical Services professionals for their dedication and lifesaving work. UTMB celebrates it with event outreach to recognize their contributions, strengthen community relations, and promote emergency care awareness. I designed an event emblem and design system as well as digital and print promotional collateral for this week-long event. The emblem design was inspired by design motifs found in EMS equipment, along with typographic treatment found in sporting event emblems.

  • For EMS Week 2025, I was to design an event emblem that represented and honored the services of our EMS Partners. This emblem would be used across all promotional and supportive collateral for the event. The pieces needed to appeal a middle-aged ranged, male/masculine leaning audience.

    • Event Promotional Materials: Outdoor Digital Signage, Social Media Graphics, Web Banners, PowerPoint Slides, and Invitations

    • Event Supporting Materials: Wall Decal Signage, Table Signs, A-Frame Signage, and Yard Signs

    • Giveaway Materials: Stickers

  • My goals of this project were to design a dynamic emblem that represented strength, community, and honor, create a cohesive design system across event collateral, and successfully cater to the EMS Partner audience.

When designing the emblem for EMS Week, my goal was to represent and celebrate the work of UTMB Health’s EMS Partners. I looked into commonly used motifs in EMS equipment, such as uniforms, badges, and ambulances, as a baseline for designing the event emblem. I also took inspiration from sporting event emblems and national park badges, for they have a similar target audience to our EMS Partners and tend to convey strength, energy, and reliability.

Research

I then moved onto typographic treatment of the main title, “EMS Week”, and the general silhouette of the emblem. I started with sketching the emblems in greyscale to ensure contrast between key elements and later converted the emblems into color when they were finalized.

Ideation

After finalizing sketches for three emblem options, I applied color and created versions with and without the UTMB Health logo. Including these options allows for some variability in the final collateral, depending on the size of the piece. Options without the logo included could be used for smaller scale pieces, such as stickers and flyers, and the UTMB Health logo could be implemented separately to ensure correct usage of the logo.
